A collaboration bringing together community food distribution and school sustainability education — where juice cartons donated to community beneficiaries returned to the classroom as building material.
In February 2026, Code Gakko collaborated with AMGD Superfood Restaurant and AMGD Healthy Food Delivery on a circular economy and sustainability education initiative. AMGD is a halal food provider with experience in food distribution and chilled logistics, supporting beneficiary groups within the community and creating employment opportunities for Persons with Disabilities.
The collaboration set out to demonstrate a circular economy in practice. Code Gakko purchased and donated 946ml Marigold fruit juice cartons to AMGD, which distributed them to its beneficiaries and to members of the public supporting its social cause. After consumption, the cleaned empty cartons were collected and returned to Code Gakko, where they became base materials for student prototypes in a school STEM programme.
The cartons supported a Primary 5 Interdisciplinary Project Work programme on Energy Reset and Sustainable Living at Anglo-Chinese School (Primary), where students designed and built energy-related prototypes. Rather than reading about the circular economy, students handled its output directly — the same packaging that had served a community purpose became the chassis of a working build.
The initiative was designed around three aims: sustainability education, circular economy practices, and community engagement and social impact. It is a model we would like to run again, and we welcome conversations with organisations interested in connecting their community work to classroom learning.
Students did not read about the circular economy. They built with it.
